Sometimes the internet is a wonderful thing and other times it runs be crazy. I’ve read about the thumb rings that various tribes have used in history (Mongols, Alans, etc), however, I’ve still never found anything that shows

        HOW the ring is used?

Can anyone direct me to a video or page that shows how exactly the darn thing held the string back?

What I found interesting from the Videos — they are right Hand shooters, using what we would consider ” Left Hand Bows” [Rt side window] but they are very quiet and smooth on there placement & draw of the arrow! food for thought–

I guess it’s my age, but I never think about YouTube. It’s interesting to watch those videos. Maybe a person who practiced a lot would be faster, but it seems slow with some of the people who are demonstrating it. ..

Yeah, I knew one needed a “wrong handed” bow but I never had a clue as to how the thumb ring system worked. If I’m at a shoot somewhere where there might be some thumb rings to try on I might buy one and play.

I won’t order one cause my old hands are hard to fit with gloves and a thumb ring may be a problem. Think you’d not want it to slip off or cut the circulation off either. Someday perhaps.

I’m thinking after the initial shot it might not be so scary.

                Actually looks fun.

I found this a few years ago. Nice little build-along, too.

Many folks seem to have success making thumb rings out of billiard balls.

I use a thumb ring. Not out of choice but of nessesity after a hand injury several years ago. It took some getting used to but it turns out being much more accurate shooting with a consistent release! I made mine out of antler shaped after the Korean style. Basically the ring sits on the base of the thumb, the string sits at the base of your thumb and rests against the ring. Hold your thumb with the index finger pull back anchor and open both thumb and index finger. This requires shooting off the right side of the bow as the index knuckle pushes the arrow to the left for right hand shooters. Some Mongolia horse shooters are able to shoot from the left side…This is what I do. However I use my MIDDLE finger to lock my thumb so my index knuckle won’t push my arrow off the shelf. Also I glue a short turkey feather on my shelf to help keep the arrow in place. Takes a few weeks of getting used to but a better way of shooting I have found.
