I assume you are talking about primitive style bows. You can buy straight grained boards from stores. Sometimes you need to look hard. TX has osage. YOu can also buy bow wood. My site has info. Jawge

Find ya a pal in Oklahoma, make the drive and fill a truck and trailer with osage. I’d imagin there’s plenty of osage in the panhandle as well. Take an extra blade and file for your saw. An axe adn wedges are a must as well:wink:

What are you wanting to try? I have and use hickory, elm, hackberry, ERC, cherry, assorted oaks on my place here in Arkansas. Hackberry and hickory tend to be some of the most forgiving to start off with.

If you are wanting to cut your own, the DFW area has a lot of Osage if you know where to look. I’ve found a lot at construction sites. Your best bet would be on the outskirts of town in areas that are still pretty heavily wooded. Find a site where the trees have just been cleared, they just bulldoze them over and haul them off.
