Last Feb. or March I posted about a young firefighter that works for me named Jessy. The post was about teaching him about trad archery and conservation. We hunted hard last year and he ended it eating tag soup but maintained is desire to take an animal with his recurve.
Jessy hunted a few times in early season but never got a shot, and we had the long wait for late season. It opened yesterday and after a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, we hunted in the creek bed behind the house. From my stand I heard his bow then a solid thud, the deer came by me in a flash and I heard him crash. We met in the pasture and I listen to Jessy relive the event. We waited 40 min. and started following the sign. After a bit we walked up to Jessy’s first archery deer, a nice little spike.
We came on shift today and I forgot to bring my camera in to work so I’ll post pics in a couple of days.
