The North Carolina Bowhunters Association fought the good fight. But to no avail. The Wildlife Resource Commission has passed some sweeping new deer hunting rules as follows:
-Daily bag limit : Removed
-Seasonal bag limit : Removed
-Bow season : reduced to 3 weeks in over half the state
-Gun season : increased to 12 weeks
-Crossbows : allowed in all seasonsThis effectively gives deer the status of rats in north carolina, in my opinion. I guess the auto insurance companies are thrilled.
What is so funny it makes me cry is the Wildlife Resource Commission Logo. When you look at it you will see a big old buck. Talk about false advertising…

Wow. Does the “no daily or seasonal bag limit” apply to the Mountains as well? Not nearly as many deer there as “down east”.

So basically, what you’re saying is that for a period of 8 weeks or whatever, it’s “Open Season” on deer in NC? That just isn’t right. Morally, environmentally or conservationally. Just not right.
We just went to Antlered Buck Only for the western portion of Montana, with minor exceptions in SOME areas. Apparently, predator numbers are up, and deer have been declining for the last few years due to predation, hunting and inclement weather (harsh winters), and the fawn crop isn’t what they feel it should be to maintain an antlerless season.
BUT, on a positive side note, they did DOUBLE the statewide quota on wolves from last year’s 75, or at least that is my understanding.

Yep. In addition, they extended the gun season in the mountains to be just as long as “down east”
