Berger’s article in the Aug/Sep issue really got my attention. I have always been fascinated by the Southwest American Indians….don’t know why, I haven’t got a drop of Native American blood in me…but anyway, he really got me excited about building my own arrows.

I have one question for him or anyone else; did the Native Americans not use a natural glue to hold their fletching to the shaft?

Critch, my understanding is that sinew will bind without glue. I used sinew to wrap fletching on arrows for an Arrow of Light ceremony, but also used hide glue to make sure they would stay together over time. Dwc

When I was a kid in Memphis our arrows were made from a reed we found near the Loosahatchie River. It was a tough reed and fairly easy to work with, but it wasn’t cattail. We used aluminum or steel slugs for arrowheads, we cut them with my dad’s cold chisel and a hammer.
