I took my bow for a walk today after work.I let my dog tag along and give him a chance to get a little squirrel hunting pratice in. he is a great squirrel dog.Well he goes nuts at this on tree and i start looking for the squirrel and there about 30 feet up was this groundhog. I drawed pick a spot and let it fly.when it hit the ground it was dead but the dog had his way with it for a few minutes.

That’s a nice groundhog for PA. Saaayy, that looks a lot like that groundhog they call ‘Phil’. Ooohhh Noooo!! 😯

Yep. looks just like him! Never did like his shadow; guess thats why he was found hanging out in trees. 😉

            LOL!

Great shot on the Chuck. Saw one in a tree once myself but nowhere near that high. Maybe you killed a Squirrel/Chuck hybrid:shock:?
After all the Grizz and Polar Bear are inter-breeding, so…

Ah yes, the groundhog, largest of the ground squirrels. I’ve surprised them and made them climb but have not seen them go 30′ but I suppose they can if need be. That’s a nice one. That hide sure would look good on a back quiver.

All kidding aside, that is a very nice groundhog, and a great shot. I think the idea of using the hide in a quiver cover is a good one, especially one that big. Congrats!

So…If winter goes on forever, does that mean hunting seasons stay open too? But, I guess that would make warmwater fishing a little tough.

                      Good shot on the Groundhog!

My Grandfather used to make boot laces from groundhog hide. Very tough leather.

i have the hide drying now after a bath in salt brime.thats how i did when i was a kid 50 years ago. i went back there today and took my camera this time,i just wish i had a photo of the hog in the tree.i also took a tape masure. i took a photo of the tree .the hog was 27 feet off the ground in the big y. i had to shoot almost straight up. i got him under the chin and the arrow came out the back of his head. he never knew what hit him.lesson learned alway carry your camera and you never know where or when your game will appear.

I’ve seen our western version, the golden marmot, up in trees many times. And not because they were running away from anything. They just seemed to like it up there! Don
