No, not the election. 😀 I have been a bit confused recently (for a long time actually, but recently more so 😆 ). I am right-handed. When I ordered a fletching jig, I ordered it in right-wing. Recently, I have seen pictures of arrows or shooters that are right-handed, but it looks like their arrows are fletched LH. Is there a standard, or is it just a preference? Be well.

I do believe it is prefrence. From what I understand, it was just kinda of an unspoken rule that if you were a right handed shooter you had to shoot left helical. Reason being that there was a misconception that your shaft would hit your riser otherwise. There is a video on youtube that has myth busted this belief. It proves that an arrow does not start its helical spin till it is past the riser. I started left and have since changed to right helical jigs. I like the idea of the shaft spinnig tighter on the broadhead threads than opposing them. Then I learned that loose BH’s can be remedied by simply applying Teflon tape on the threads prior to screwing them in. It works great for me. Left Or Right I think they are both great. Especially if you have confidence in your set up… 8)

The only time I think it matters is when pairing with a single-bevel broadhead. You want the wing and the bevel edge to match, or your risk tearing a hole in the time-space continuum upon release.

The only difference I, personally, have noticed is that with my recurve, my hand is so close to the shelf, that when I shoot RW feathers, they tend to slice into my bow hand. Switching to LW fixed the problem. My longbow doesn’t seem to have a preference, since my hand sits so much lower than the shelf. I haven’t shot my “hybrid” enough to know if there’s a difference there or not.

Most righties, including myself seem to shoot left wing feathers. Since turkeys seem to come with both left and right wings, being a right wing guy gives you more opportunities for trades…

I have some right wing feathers… Anybody want to trade for some left wing feathers?

                  Alex,

I bought my first jig on the auction and it was right wing, so I’ve been shooting right wing since. It works just fine and there seems to be plenty of choices in feathers, too. Have fun! dwc

I have heard that turkey farmers would clip the right wing so there were a lot more left wing feathers available than right wing. I’m not sure if it is true or not but that is what I heard.

I had a bow once that would only shoot left wing feathers, I shoot right handed. Now a days tho I shoot right wing feathers with cock feather in. The top fletch touches my nose that way giving me a dual anchor point.
