Get some big broadheads like a Magnus I or Snuffer 160 to check your tune. If all you’ve shot is fletched shafts with field points you may be in for some wild flight with broadheads. Get the big wide heads to fly true and then any broadhead you want (provided the weight is the same) will work for ya. I shoot Grizzly 190’s and Snuffer 160’s, mostly the Griz.

When shooting a fairly high EFOC the worry of wind planing is gone with a head of any size when mounted straight.

Your stated set up should give you a decent EFOC for you to do so without worry.

The increased length of the shaft the feathers have to work with on an EFOC also gives the blades of a broadhead that much of a SHORTER amount of shaft (lever) to use to cause wind planing.

With the EFOC and the arrows tuned to your bow you will be amazed at how LITTLE feather you will need for superb arrow flight.

I can shoot Tree Sharks and Deadheads with no planing at all with EFOC and three 2 3/4 inch feathers, cut lower than normal and have seen several others with the same results.

It’s just one of several advantages of the EFOC itself.

Not qualified as an “expert” but this has held true for me all summer long shooting EFOC set ups. Shoot what you want but the Grizzly and Brown Bear heads are pretty tough to beat.

The solution is to go back to square one and tune your bow (bare shaft or paper; both work). If your setup is tuned properly, sans serious inconsistencies in shot execution, wind planing should be a nonissue.

M — Grizzly is a top of the line head but currently available in right-hand only, so shouldn’t be used (for maximum penetration) with the left-twist feathers most folks shoot. This year I tested ABS Ashby, Abowyer Brown Bear (about half the price of the ABS) and Tusker Concord (most economical) heads and all gave excellent flight, great bone and tissue penetration in elk (killed with the BB and tested the others in the dead animal) with no damage to any of them. All are very hard steel with good MA. We keep waiting for the new improved Grizzly and STOS heads … and waiting. For the money right now I can highly recommend the Tusker. One guy’s opinion, dave

M- Take the time to learn how to tune your bow and arrows. Go to a site like A&H and read up on it. Proper tuning is what gives you the ability to achieve consistant accuracy and penetration. There are no shortcuts.
