I’ve been wanting some sort of vertical sanding belt for my shop (strictly hobby/honey-do), but haven’t seen any that weren’t priced out of this world…

But I saw this rigid vertical oscillating sander a while back and had the chance to try it out. It seemed to work pretty well. So I bought one. I’ve just started using it on my next bow project and it is really nice. It has an oscillating vertical belt, and can also do spindle sanding. It comes with about 5 round spindle setups in addition to the belt. The table angles for various edge work.

It was a couple hundred bucks delivered from home depot. Thought I would pass it on…

          Steve,
I have the same tool in my shop. I bought it a couple of years ago after reading a very favorable review of it in
Fine Woodworking magazine. I’ve had no complaints and have used it on a couple of bow making projects. Hopefully many more of those in the near future. I’ve also used it to shape some knife handles with good results.
One thing I would like to track down are some spinal papers with finer grits, 220 for example.

I’ve had one of those for about a year now. Just love it. I use a 36 grit belt for glue removal from a bow right out of the press and then switch belts for other work.

I have the same sander. I have a hard time staying square on the belt though. Mine came from a pawn shop so the deck on it may be a little off square. Does anybody else have that problem with theirs?

I’m not sure if this is what you mean, but when I lock the deck down to be square, I hold a square to the belt and deck. then I adjust and lock down the deck.

I did find that the index on the table lock mechanism isn’t exactly at 90 degrees. So I use the square every time…
