One thing about Traditional Archery— there is no shortage of experiences and beliefs!

I, for one, agree with Jay Kidwell and his view in his book, “Instinctive Archery” where if you shoot “instinctive” dominance doesn’t matter.

If you use any sort of aiming involving the arrow (gap or gun barrel or whatever else it’s called) that is a whole different story.

I’m like you, Right handed and left eye dominant. As long as I stare at what I want to hit, when I come to anchor, as in Jay’s book, my shaft is rather between my eyes and as a binocular, front eyed predator, dominance has not affected me.

Shooting sights, I don’t use them or shoot guns or bows w/ peeps so whenever I pick one up, I have to close my left eye to make my right eye look at the sights.

Shooting trad, instinctively, not an issue. YMMV

I am lucky in that my eye and hand match up. So I can’t give you any advice stemming from personal experience…

My daughter is RH but LE dominant. When she switched to a left handed bow, her shooting improved a lot.

The common wisdom is that you should shoot the bow that matches your eye. But everyone is different and there are a lot of folks that do what they need to to shoot the opposite hand.

The one thing I would say is don’t be afraid to shoot a lefty bow. It feels cumbersome for a few days, then it gets to feeling natural. I have shot left handed enough to figure that much out.

Many coaches will tell you that it is “preferable” to shoot the same side as eye dominance. If you are able to do that, you just have one less obstacle to overcome.

That said, there are many examples of outstanding archers shooting cross dominant so it certainly CAN be done. AND there are many physical reasons to shoot cross dominant. There are even ways to retrain your eye dominance if you want.

Shoot how you like with expectations of success, but if you at all can shoot the same handedness as your eye dominant side, it is just easier in the long run.

If you can switch to shooting lefty it will help in the long run. I’m a lefty with right eye dominant, I’m to set in my ways to switch, and I tend to shoot a little right. I shoot both eyes open
