So I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus, had some personal issues, got married etc… But now I’m back in “regular mode” if you will. So I have been tinkering with now building a lot more lately and come up with hundreds of ideas. I finally put one into effect and built myself a bow! It’s not the best but it is my first try so hopefully it will get better. It’s made from a piece of hickory that I bought from a local mill. It’s a LONG bow! 72″ tip to tip, I haven’t put it on my scale yet bu I’m thinking right now it’s at about 60lbs give or take. I will post some photos ASAP. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with a linen backing? I’ve heard good and bad about it. Thinking of backing it with some heavy linen but I don’t want to ruin this bow:) let me know what you guys think.

I really like hickory a lot! Does really good in the dry climes I live in. Hickory is really tough. Unless there are some major violations on the back and the tiller is decent a backing is rarely necessary.

That said, breaking your first bow is a lot like getting dumped for the first time, you’ll be wondering what else you could’ve done to save it. A light linen backing would be fine, no need to ad lots of weight. I find that thrift stores tend to have a fair selection of women’s 100% linen pants in sizes that can back a few bows for a buck or two.

          Looking forward to the pics!
