        My buddy shot a doe the other night with his self-bow. He decided not to track it until morning to give it time to expire. When he found it, the coyotes had already been there. He sent a photo, but you guys can imagine that there was not a lot left.

        His following email included this link about coyotes, which is pretty interesting, although might not be much of a surprise to most of you. Good read though. Btw, we’re in the Poconos, NE PA.

              Yotes beating me to a deer several years ago is why I now shoot them on sight.

              Shot a nice doe about an hour before dark. Shot didn’t look the best so I took my stand back to the truck and had a cup of coffee before taking up the blood trail.

              I’d rough say it couldn’t have been more than an hour. However, by the time I found the doe they had already made a mess out of it.

              After several other losses that year the members of the club voted on and passed a $5.00 per tail bounty. It did cut down on the number of losses each year, but we had to raise the dues to cover the cost.

              Needless to say I was more than willing to pay the extra $25 per year.

                  We’ve aplenty here in the Texas Panhandle. I shoot’em with whatever I have handy where I legally can. My truck always has a coyote/pig gun handy.

                  Longbow hunting them is tough but I give it a try. Amazing how quick those suckers can move.

                      When ever I hunt in the afternoon I usually hear Coyotes every nite! We have to recover our deer right away or the Yotes are on them! Back in the late 70s early we always recovered our deer that next morning if it was cold enough, not anymore!

                        Both here in Jersey and Adirondacks we get the critter as soon as possible. We try to never leave one overnight if avoidable. In last 6-8 yrs I’ve had damn near every deer left overnight (maybe 4-5), or at least some part of it, “donated” to local the coyote population 👿

                        I do like shooten’ them though ….:lol:
