As not to hijack another thread I thought I’d begin anew. I am an avid reader of reviews for products ranging from movies to archery products. Knowing that everone has their own way or their own agenda, you can read between the line enough to gather some bits of valuable information about the product to help the decision process. Plus, some are downright entertaining. Anybody ever read the “three wolves and a moon” tee shirt reviews on Amazon?
You folks bother with reviews? Dwc

By the time I’m at the Point of Purchase I’ve already done a runnin ton of reviewing a product I THINK I might like… so not all that much do I read on line reviews, except on sites like this, which often LEADS to an interest to do more reviewing and learning.
Opinions are like body parts… everyone, as you recognize, has their own criteria, prejudices and reasons for same.
Without the entire picture, it’s hard to weight input from strangers, especially in a vacuum on a website selling said same product.
Even facebook I’m told (don’t go there) a vendor can set it up to NOT ALLOW a negative feedback…so what’s the point?

I find reviews very useful. Sure, there are some that are obviously worthless, but when I look at an item that has possibly hundreds of reviews, and I see what the overall rating is, and I can quickly scan both the most positive and the most negative reviews, I feel like I can get a much better sense of what I’m really ordering than if I just do so blind.
I also find reviews on forums like this to be even more useful than on merchant sites. There’s more opportunity to go into detail, provide pics of the product in use, respond to questions, etc.
People can pine for the ‘good ol days’ (and I do the same myself sometimes), but the ability to share information in these ways isn’t a bad thing at all, imo.

Bruce you always say what I wish I had said…
I give way more weight to things on archery sites or other sites specific to items I want to consider purchasing than on as you said so aptly, “Merchant sites”.
I’m constantly amazed at this internet. Today I found a utube showing me how to wire in a hot receptacle from a light switch. I’ve been saving videos on tying my favorite flies.
So not only archery, but every day living and other hobbies come to life here.
I just tend to like to do point-counter point with a past user 1:1 if it’s a higher ticket item to check it out…
You said it well about this and like sites of special interest showing so much more depth and there can be 2-way communication regarding various aspects. i just don’t bother much with merchant site stuff…people complain for how it was shipped, that has little to do with the product… and vice versa!

Everyone above covered all my thoughts on reviews. Reviews, like those Smithhammer does, are incredibly helpful. My review of the reviews I read on Amazon.com (as an example), would reult in three stars. You have to sift through a bunch of useless bs, but in the end, it’s better to have them than not.

DWC,
I also value reviews. I nearly lost it reading some of those three wolf and moon reviews. Thanks for sharing.

Based on the reviews, I think I need this t-shirt:
Although, if you’re going to walk around in one of these in Idaho, it better be made out of kevlar…

I find reviews from bloggers, hobbyists AND professional most helpful when they provide a “review policy”. Many of the fly fishing blogs I follow specifically state that they do not do negative reviews. So whatever the review, they are reviewing it b/c they like and endorse the product, equipment, book or whatever it is.
For merchant reviews it’s tough, if there are a lot of reviews, and they are overwhelmingly in favor of the product, then I have a tendency to look at the handful of negative reviews. It seems to me that for outdoors/sporting goods products, those people that really put a piece of equipment through it’s paces tend to post more moderately or low rated reviews, even if their text suggests that they actually like the product. These reviews are much more insightful pro’s vs. con’s and tend to look at the relationship of cost of a product to it’s durability, longevity and overall longterm value.

Smith, I looked up Kevlar tee shirts, but I can’t find one with a wolf on it. Sorry, man, you’ll just have to risk it.
When I first got started with this archery stuff, the reviews on 3Rivers were a great help to me, as was their tech staff. I bought a Granberg chainsaw sharpener a few years back and one of the reviewers posted a how-to that was amazingly in depth and a really big help. I definitely like reading the reviews on things in this forum. Sharing information, if done truthfully and without agenda, is a wonderful thing. AHHHWOOOOOOO!

And this is one of my favorite reviews:
“I believe that wearing this t-shirt has made me a better man, which is remarkable because, well….I’m a chick.”

OK OK—Linda said she would order me one, but she had a better name—Larry, Moe, and Curly.
WOJo and Brennan just heard that Potomac state forest 3 d course opens Sat. So you guys need to plan a trip down.
30+ turkey in field about 1/2 mile down the road this morning. Opening day is the 18th.
Those reviews are priceless:lol:

Would a window decal work? Ha ha!
I’ll never be able to look at these t-shirts again without laughing. The reviews are priceless, and I only got through a few of them.
“When I put this T-shirt on for the first time, my wife left me! Thank you, Three Wolf Moon T-Shirt!”

If you guys make team shirts out of those things, you ought to cut the sleeves into fringes as a mark of distinction. Hate to see you blend into the crowd.. dwc

Nice. I think that terry-cloth headbands would accessorize nicely with those as well.
If I was on another archery team, and you guys showed up dressed like that, I think I’d be intimidated into forfeiting.

Yep, I’d run. dwc
