        I’m new to the forum but have dabbling in traditional archery for awhile now, only getting really serious about it in the last year. After looking over the Great Northern Bowhunting Co.’s website over the weekend, I called and left a message inquiring about a Field bow that was listed as in stock. Long story short, Jerry called me up the next day and was very pleasant to speak with. He patiently answered all my questions about the bow and I ended up buying it. Should be here by the end of the week–60″ Field Bow with osage riser, 44# @28″. Just wanted to share how nice it was to do business with them. 😀

          Welcome, PTA — As it happens, I just spoke with Jerry this morning myself and agree with your assessment of his laid-back pleasant nature. He is what he is, which is a compliment in my pov. Jerry is also “Mr. Kalamazoo” and we owe him thanks for that as well. The Field Bow is advertised as a “starter” bow, or for children and women. This only because he only makes them only in lower poundages; the one you bought being toward the top end (unless things have changed since I last checked). In turn, I think he only makes them in low poundages to keep them from competing with his other bows. All are very good bows (I’ve shot them at Kzoo), but for the price (and again, I haven’t checked in a good while), I don’t know how you can beat a Field Bow for quality and performance. You done good, IMHO. Dave

            Your absolutely right Dave. The Field Bows are usually made no more than 45#. Once in awhile one will come through in maybe 47-48# draw weights. Jerry said he was surprised the 44-pounder that I bought had stayed around as long as it did, as the heavier pound ones usually go quick. Now, I’m looking at one the Great Northern leather side quivers. 😀

              I’ve been admiring those bows in their TBM ads for quite some while. Nice purchase and the quiver will be a great addition to it. I think your poundage is perfect for starting out and for field archery, that’s the same weight I shoot!

                I will be sure to let everyone know how it shoots and I’ll try and post some pictures as well. I’ve previously bought only factory-made bows prior to this but the little, personal touches you get when dealing with a custom shop make such a difference. While the Field Bows from Great Northern are not custom-made per se, that is you can’t specify options like locator grips, wood choices, etc., everything I’ve heard are that they are great longbows! Jerry even told me he would string my new bow and let it sit a day or two before shipping, to help set any string-stretch.

                  I can’t comment on the Field Bow, but I like the Bushbow I got from Jerry. I agree with him being nice to talk to and deal with. I’m sure you will be happy with your purchase. Same for the quiver.
