I have a Great Plains Long-curve that, if possible, I’d like to convert to a take-down style bow. It has recurve limbs but a longbow style handle. Does anyone have any experience with this? Suggestions? Thanks

The reason being is that a T/D would be much easier air-traveling with, but I don’t want to spend the money for a whole new bow.

I have no experience with this [ although I do own a Shrew Samauri Takedown, built that way].
The Other Members* {Majority] who have attempted to do what you are asking have not been satisfied. I would Imagine it costs more to rebuild one, than make one from scratch.
I am sure members who are experienced in this endeavor will Chime in soon—remember – the Hunt is on! and they are out on the Chase — as I will be again next week

I talked to Gregg Coffee (Shrew bowyer) if he could convert my 1 piece Classic Hunter into a takedown version. He told me that he could not do it with the hinge system he uses because he does something special to the takedown handles to conpencate for the hinge. It was way to technical for me to understand:lol: but I got the drift anyway. There might be other hunge systems out there that would allow you to convert but I would check with a couple bowyer who actually build takedowns.

I think ill leave my one piece be. Seems like conversion isn’t the best idea, plus I found a bow maker that makes T/D’s for a reasonable price, in case anyone else is lookin for an affordable T/D google “Renegade Longbows” out of Athens, TX. Nice simple hunting take downs.
