Sorry haven’t been around gents….
Looked to fly-in deep into ADK park, hour or so from my place…tried for 3 days and weather just refused to cooperate. Pilot couldn’t safely take off, and my buddy and I did want to see our boys again so we wound up hunting my couple 100 acres….to no avail…rain + wind + warm = nice time in the woods with no bother frorm any critters!
Anyhow, few weeks later found me along with my 12 yr old and my Dad in East Shore of MD on Chesapeake Bay barrier islands chasing Sika deer around…Those things are cool!!!!
Incredibly vocal, bugling and roaring throughout the day and night. Very small, SouthEast asian Elk…Couple guys got hinds…largest was only 62lbs. Outfitter (awesome BTW, archery only and goes out of his way for Trad folks – PM me and I’ll be glad to pass along name/# and any info you need). Big Stag is 90lbs. Hunt is absolute blast and on the easy side. Swamp is thick and real wet…hunting by blind or stand over trails, bait sites, wallows or combo. All depends on movement and your preference. These things, IMHO, are more skittish than whitetails – a sentiment echoed by outfitter and few guys in camp who have hunted them before. Bit unsettling, especially to my son, that there are burial sites EVERYWHERE. Common to slosh into our spot in the dark only to walk around 125+ yr old headstones on way out – just couldn’t see them in the dark!
A great hunt, highly recommended.
