After work yesterday , I went down to a irrigation culvert/ditch, where I go sometimes to shoot my bow, or just get away from populated areas. I ws shooting direct into a hard wind at 15-20 yds. My 43# longbow ,which I I pull to 29″ which I guess would be 45# ,, well it didnt have much fizzle, and even felt like I had to overshoot to hit target not too low.
a bit frustrating, so last night I took my kingfisher recurve , took the roller rest off and put a stick on rest. Hadnt shot this bow with normal arrows , only fish arrows.
It is 45# supossedely only 2 # heavier but it shot much harder & flatter. The longbow is linen backed hickory & shoot off hand .
i am wondering why so much difference?
any ideas, The composite recurve almo0st shoots like a compound, as far a flatness , and I was mopre accurate. -
O the glass bow will shoot alot faster than any wood bow. Definatly. That is mainly why I like recurves so much. I think the kingfisher is all synthetic!? Anyway I have a hickory longbow backed with fiberglass cloth, 60# and it shoots slower than my 45 pound recurve!

I enjoy building and shooting hickory long bows but one of the drawbacks of hickory, as tough as it is, is that it will eventually take a set which will rob you of some speed. I have found that I need a much heavier pull to gain any speed with my bows. How much set your bow develops depends on the individual peice of wood. Some staves are just better than others. It does help if the stave is allowed to dry properly. I’ve noticed if I air dry a stave for about a year it will result in almost no set.
Too much set could be the problem. -
I may make you mad here Steve but, the Kingfisher is Junk! Bet you have not shot a really good recurve if you think its fast. Get yourself a “good Bow” and you will be on your way to better shooting. As for the “self Bows” or linen backed Bows it depends on who made it and whether they knew what they were doing. A good self Bow will shoot 140-160 FPS, which is probably as fast or faster than your Kingfisher.

H ha I agree, I bought it because it was cheap , and durable for bowfishing, I want a decent long,or recurve bow. I am just low on samolians. I have ex I support , in the form of child support.
That why I asked about the Bear Montana in my first post . Its 329. the bear grizzly is the same price ,If I hadnt wasted my bucks on the freakin compound I bought , I could get one . 600 would have got me a nice trad bow, but I messed up and did. I got to make do , for now. your right though, kingfisher is crapo, it works ok for bowfish8ing though,. roller rest suck though. It shoots both kinds of arrows better now with a old fashin stick on rest.
