23Aug2014 is opening day here in Arizona for early Deer and Bear archery season, OTC tags. Yes, it a hot time of year to be hunting, even in the MT’s of So. Arizona.
I havent been able to work on some of Dr. Ashby’s findings, but I’m ready none the less…
Since I pulled all my trail cams due to fire danger/fear of Forest closings, I’ve had to resort to boots-on-the-ground scouting to find active areas, but I havent a clue as to size/color-phase of the bears using a certain small saddle I found that is paved in bear scat.
The saddle is small and thickly over-grown, a brush blind wont work, so I have to hoof a ladder type treestand into the saddle. A shot will be close, 5-15yards close.
Arizona doesnt allow any baiting or scents to be used bear hunting, so it’s either spot and stalk or useing calls.
I’ll be useing a remote control elec. call, along with mouth calls, hurt fawn calls.
It should be an exciting Hunt, close range bear coming to calling…
(I let the Coues deer pass this time of year since they are in velvet and I’d rather hunt deer in hard-horn)

Archery deer and elk both open locally on Sept. 1 and I can take “any” deer or elk IF the hunting gods smile on me. 😀
Ten weeks and counting…
