Everything has been going pretty well in practice. Then I have this wild shot like Stevie Wonder might make. I missed the whole $&#! target! Anyone else have one that made you want to cry this year? If not for being so awful I’d laugh.

Happens to me whenever I shoot for a long time and start to get tired. Of course, I have had my share of “What in the World happened there!?!?” Shots!

For the most part, my bad shots are much closer to my good shots, but I had a doozy last week. First shot of the morning and it went crazy. Missed the bale completely and went through the weeds and grass. I still haven’t had the heart to go looking for it. I’m convinced I’ll need a shovel for this one. dwc

Hmmmm yyyeeess I’ve had a few shots go hay wire. 🙄

The worst was in my shop shooting at at my indoor target during the winter, the max distance I can shoot in there is 9&1/2 yards, so imagine my immense surprise when a neat perfectly round hole appeared in the steal siding of the back of my shop 1 full foot up and to the left of my target. 😯 😳

I think I was getting tired and just didn’t get to full draw before auto reflex kicked in. 😕

There is now a 3/4″ 4×8 sheet of plywood behind my target and a 4″ gap filled with board insulation behind the plywood, and a carpet hanging over the board. 😀

Been working on my shoulders so as to hold at full draw that little bit longer and be more stable, perfect site picture, smooth release kept the bow up and some evil spirit took possession of my arrow, not saying how high it went just that it was way way high, I have no idea what went wrong.

                  Yes!

It happens to me every now and then…. Frustrating!

Actually I find it usually happens when I lose focus, and especially when I lose focus on my release/follow through.

I can have a smooth release, but if my follow though is not right then….

Getting better though. At least now I can start to understand where the problem probably came from

Shooting to much and getting tired, and maybe not shooting very well are all common denominators for me.

When it happens they always go left 3-4 feet. Left handed shooter.

It’s a sign that its time to quit:!:

Dug a field tip out of the tree right behind my target yesterday. Shot high. Had impressive penetration at 20 yds!:D

Yea, yesterday at a 3D shoot!!! 10’d a walking bear at about 15 yds, 10’d a raccoon at about 6 yds. walked up to a javalina at about 10 yds. shot a foot over his back. Now that’s a DUH! Brain****s come natural at my age I guess:D Right David? 😉

I don’t recall anything ‘WILD’ recently ,,,,every shot is good right to left ,,,but always low , no matter the distance. I was blaming it on using 2 ounce arrows .

Then just a few minutes ago , while stumpin’ ’round the yard ,,,,THIS BIG MAN WITH A HAIRED OVER UPPER LIP RAN OUT FROM HIS HIDIN’ SPOT IN AMONG THE WHITE PINES AND SLAPPED ME UP SIDE THE WHITE HAIRS ! HE SHOUTED ” PUSH N PULL !!!!! . Then he dissappeared into the pines again.

So I regain control and did like he said ,,,,Hmmm it worked .Took several more shots and none were low .

Evidently the pain in my left elbow was causing me to stop pushing .

One other thought , THAT OL’ BOY THAT SLAPPED ME LOOKED A LOT LIKE THE FELLER ON THE COVER OF ”INTINCTIVE SHOOTING II”.

Pretty sure it was Fred . He had on one of those coveted plaid , wool coats . Ol’ boy from up north wears RED .

Fred stops by ever so often to remind me of my slouchy style and inability to concentrate . Just wish he’d stay long enough to share my Kentucky Sour Mash an’ sit a spell.

Yeah, it is worrisome when you get one or more of those wild ones. While it has been quite some time since I missed the entire target I always seem to have some shots go so far off that they would most definitely be cause for concern in a hunting situation. I feel better when my first set is on and as I begin to tire the groups loosen up. I can hunt with that. But man I get worried when the first group is all over the place getting better as I shoot subsequent groups only to have them fall apart again as I begin to tire. That will mess with your head for sure.

Edit: OK so about not missing the entire target…..just went out to shoot and yes those reclining lawn chairs will stop a woodie from my longbow. Maybe I need to leave that bow alone for awhile and shoot my recurve. Finally ended with a decent group.
