I went back to the range and started with 2 new arrows again for the 5th time. Each time still not knowing exactly what I was looking at definitely not confident that tuning a EFOC arrow was possible.
I paper tuned a Beman Camo Hunter (340) with a 100grn. Insert and a 250grn. Field Point starting at full length. A Quarter size Sticker in the center with a line running right down the middle. My DL is 27″ and DW @ 52#’s @ my DL.
I Cut 1/8 @ at time from a 32″ arrow till I got within 2 or 3″ from my Center line on the right side and still having a severe 9″ Tail left kick. I was afraid that if I kept cutting that I would surely stiffen my arrow so much that My point of impact would surely cross over to the left side of my Center Line, Meaning that I have already cut too much arrow and would rendor my arrow useless at that point.
With Troy’s advice to make Micro Cuts from this point I Cleaned up the flight to nearly a perfect paper cut. I found that these micro Cuts did not change my point of impact at all but rather took my 9″ Tail Left kicks down to 1″ to 2″ Tail Left Kicks. I ended up with a 29 and 3/4″ arrow with nearly perfect flight @ 12 yds. I’m still positive that I can clean it up even further. I will go back and now make cuts no thicker that the thickness of the blade now to fix this. Many might say to stay as is and be happy with my results but I just can’t, knowing that there is still a possibiliy of tuning a finer flying arrow. Troy Thank you for walking me through this process.
I would have never been able to trust myself past the point of my arrow being so close to the Center line. I’ll post pics of my results next time I go to the range. Guys you need to take your time and not rush. This Tuning thing is possible. I’ve been at it for over a month. Thanks again Troy…….

I just posted my update under a different thread, but this is familiar in some ways. I don’t have a saw. I’m using a Dremel with a cutoff blade. I’ve been edging the shaft into the face of the blade to sand off a little at a time and it does make a difference. Like you said, not so much for POI but for better flight.
I’m shooting at about 12 yards for the accuracy part of the tuning, as my groups widen up much beyond that. I’m chasing around a walnut pretty good at 20, but that’s not the consistency for the tuning. I do step back to about 30 yards to look at arrow flight, which is when I end up sanding off little bits at a time.
Again, Troy, thanks very much! dwc

I know for fact that anyone that is willing to stick with it can have better flying arrows.

I thought I had met my match acouple of days ago. Still, I wasn’t going to give up. Today in approx. an hour I had my shafts for my ACS CX shooting straight and true. The fletched arrows were a joy to watch.

I kept telling Crystalshrimp that it would come together. I think he will now agree.

Thumbs up to you and David.

Now we got to get Tater (Bully26) straightened out…:D
