Enjoying the latest TBM as usual and noted Mr Conrads comments on the “Prada showroom window”. I spend a lot of time in that area. I also did a double take when passing by the first time. knowing a number of the Local Ranchers, I asked them what’s up? they explained to me, that there are quite a few “artists” now living in the Marfa area and this was one of there “performance projects” as it were–all the items are also cut in half. It has been broken into a couple of times. The Big bend is still a tough place — just not as “wild” [ as in wilderness, as it used to be] Javelinas are a lot of fun — I hunt them in the same area–

          Hey Scout:

Yes, I heard the same thing in re “artists” and the locals, many of them I met, laughed at the idea. Still, pretty cool and strange at the same time. It was, indeed, a strange twist to the complex history of the area. As for the javelina, I’d prefer to hunt hogs, although they were pretty non-existent this time around mainly, I believe, due the fact the riverine was not as wet as in past years in this area. Still, nice area to hunt and great people. Oh, and the excellent, albeit expensive, steak house in town … forgot the name, but damn good place!

I’m a new subscriber and really enjoyed TJ’s Winter Respite piece. It sounded like a great group hunt. Being from Ireland the scenes are other-worldly as it is but the Prada store just made it surreal 😯

              Mr Conrads –

The local folks might prefer to keep it a mystery like the “Marfa lights” — adds a little different ambiance to the area. I will be there in a couple weeks and investigate further, am curious now what the “real story” is- A personal friend, Mac White who honchos the Brite Ranch

[ famous for being raided by Mexican Revolutionaries – similar to the Columbus Raid] his family has been there for a long time.He should know – whether he will say is another matter.

I have Taken Hogs there as well, mostly in the drainages that go west off of Livermore Mtn. This year the drought was the worst in decades and a lot of oaks died [ and everthing else]

as you say the river courses were dry as a bone–and some of the major Springs-
