It has been over a month since I killed my first cow elk with a traditional bow. My wife, children, and I enjoyed a fine meal of grilled backstrap last night. It brought back the hunt for me, and again made me so thankful for the opportunity to hunt these great animals. I had a chance to hunt some BLM gound in WY. It was a DIY hunt, and I was into elk every day of the trip. I also had a mulie tag with me. I put a stalk on a group of elk the 3rd day in some pretty fickle winds. I had to stop and start the stalk 3 times but managed to get in their way. A little 5by bull pushed a fine cow into my effective range. I made a good shot and she only went about 25 yards. Packing the meat off was a labor of love, and I managed to get the hide off as well for tanning. I am looking forward to next year, and I hope to draw that same area. I saw some AWESOME bulls there!
