Dean Torges goes into finishing a self bow in his book “Hunting the Osage Bow”. He recommends treating it with paraffin/wax combo. I forget his exact process.

He did do moisture testing comparing paraffin to poly and other coatings. Paraffin came out on top, and is easy to reapply.

Might see if you can get a copy of his book to see what he did exactly.

The Ice Man used blood to protect his bow from moisture.

                    I use Johnson’s Paste Wax.

I know others have recommended Butcher’s Bowling Alley Wax, but I have not tried it yet.
