All the semi-science of scent use smells too much like work to me. And it sure ain’t woodsmanship. I’d rather just hunt ’em. But “fun” and “work” are personal concepts, I understand. Closest I’ve come is using cow elk pee as a cover scent on boots, etc., and I’m ashamed of that only because it’s a game farm product. Think about how these scents are collected. I am determined to break that habit, but to each his own and no criticism intended, just mho. dp

Nope don’t use the stuff. I do use Scent Shield Ti4 Titanium Cover Scent. What made me buy it, was I was in the archery shop one day and a lady from a local dog kennel came in and bought a case of the stuff. This stuff is anti-microbal and kills all bacteria with the scent elimination. It must work cause I see plenty of deer and have had four different Black Bear walk right by me (me on the ground) and never give me a notice. As far as urine scent go, I made a mock scrape last year, just for giggles using nothing but 100% SteveMcD, and bucks and does hit it throughout the rut. So NO I don’t buy the stuff… morally I’d have a tough time justifying 10 to 50 dollars for a bottle of pee. While 3/4’s of the world goes hungry. Deer and many animals smell like we hear, they have the ability to identify many scents, we may mask some but never all.

Steve — You should bottle your “kidney nectar” with a fancy title. like Steve’s Macho Mystery Lure, then video yourself killing a big buck over a fake scrape where you used it (a high-fenced game farm would work well for this, as it does on so many other outdoor hero product videos), and get a show on the Outhouse Channel. You’d become rich(er) and famous(er) overnight. The only downside I can see is that if demand grew sufficiently, you’d have to drink beer nonstop to keep the supply coming. 😛

Actually, I think most “Lures” will work early on in the pre-rut. But, quite frankly… the deer ain’t smellin’ Tink’s, and Buck Stop, and Buck Bomb and Hot Doe lure all year long. It does not take a mature buck more than a day or so to know it’s hunting season and he goes nocturnal.

The best scent is no scent.

I haven’t tried that scent, but I have tried other ones. Never had much luck making mock scrapes around here. July seems a tad early to start one. Last two years I have tried the scent sticks you light like incense. I like how they let you know what the wind is doing and they really leave a scent on vegetation
