Dave, for some bizarre reason, I got the impression from your book that that movie was no longer available. I’m happy to find that my impression was wrong.:)

Patrick — the movie is easily available on dvd, and possibly via Roku or one of the other instant-watch outlets. In fact there are two versions and I have both. The original is in Russian with English subtitles–that’s the one to get. There’s also one I found on the internet that’s put out by a Russian company, cheap, which is overdubbed in English and while the film is the same, somehow the subtitled version is more powerful than the over-dub. It’s the book upon which it was based, Dersu the Trapper, that for many years was hard to find. But it has been republished and should be available via Amazon, etc. dp

the Mountain Men with Charlton Heston

Oh yeah, Mountain Men is a good one. Also stared Brian Keith.

Deliverence, movie based on the book with the same title by author James Dickey. Mr. Dickey was a subscriber until his passing. I also have the book on tape, and it is read by the author. Dickey was a traditional bowhunter and his influence on the sceenplay is very evident. Realism is watching the blood run down the arrow shaft and drip off the broadhead, unlike most movies, the actors don’t die immediately after being shot with an arrow, and we all know that’s exactly what happens.

What always impressed me about the reality of this film – was the sound of impact and the later pulling out of the shaft from the corpse of the rapist. Also seeing Voight get the “Buck ague” [fever] = The best part is the “Wild River Trip” hard to do today

A Knights Tale, with Heath Ledger, makes me smile but don’t think Chaucer would have recognised it.

Although not a Traditional movie in the sense that it is not an old movie The Weatherman with Nicolas Cage about a Chicago Weatherman who struggles with lifes twists and turns and finds a connection in traditional archery. A pretty good modern flick.

those are all good bow movies, but I also love to watch the new King Arthur that came out a few years back. lots of bows and shots.

If you want a good laugh, The Weather Man is great. The archery aspect has an appropriate connection that I’m sure many of us feel in life in general. Have your popcorn made ahead of time for this one.
