Has anyone tried the new German Pine shafts from Kustom King? Are they similiar to Spruce? Fir? or Chundoo?
From my other post I am currently making a dozen arrows from Surewood footed shafts strictly for hunting. 8)
But for stumping and 3D these German Pine shafts might not be bad. At 22 dollars a dozen I wouldn’t be too heart-broken if I broke a few! But I would be upset if they all exploded on impact!:lol::roll:

Steve, I doubt that German pine is much different than N. American or any other pine. I’m guess it will be heavy and wavy and hard to straighten. But for that price? We nominate you as our Mikey to buy, test and report back to us. It would almost be worth that much to watch them shatter! 🙄 dp

A friend makes his shafts from old pine floorboards he says they need to have been down for 50 years before they learn to behave.
I’m stickin with nice reliable aluminium.

Steve, why don’t you call and talk to Tim or Gabby at Kustom King. I think they would give you an honest answer as to how the shafts are. In my experience, if soft woods are straight when you buy them, they tend to stay straight as long as moisture content is consistent. I’ve had great luck with Norway Pine, Chundoo, Spruce, Fir and Cedar, so I don’t know why they couldn’t get straight grained German Pine. Give them a call and see what Tim has to say about them.
