Every now and again I’ll have some young kid that wants to shoot with me. After letting them use my kids bows and get really excited about archery it is hard to see their parents glazed over eyes and know they won’t get a bow of their own.
I’d like to give every kid a nice bow, but obviously that’s impractical. I bought a book about making PVC bows from 3Rivers recently and gave it a try.
It’s actually pretty easy to make a decent shooting bow from a piece of pipe. And they can be decorated up to be really neat looking. So now I have an option that will take a couple hours work and cost about $1.50. The attached bow isn’t really good for kids, but I did it to see what was possible. It pulls to 32 inches and draws about 25lbs.
My next effort will be just a simple long bow or recurve suitable for kids. I’ll stick it in the corner for the next youngster that happens by.

Very cool, Steve. I’ve come close to buying that book as well. The author has a number of videos on YouTube that have made me more intrigued about building one. Let us know how it goes!

Yea, his video’s are fun. I didn’t find the video’s till after I read the book. But it was nice to have the book there to follow as I was working through the first bow. Haven’t had a chance to make another yet. But when I do I’ll post it.
I left the first one at the local shop for kids night. I figure that’s the best way to test it out. Let the kids at it…
