Im new to traditional even after being a bowhunter for 25 years. This being said I have a Black Widow SA2, 55#@27. Im shooting Goldtip traditional 28 3/4″ with rh helical feathers, 100 grain inserts with 220 field points, is this arrow too heavy. My overall arrow weight is 615grains. Im getting good flight and my groups are around 2-3″ at 15 yards. My bh is 8 1/2″ and need any help that can be given. ThaNKS

Sounds to me like you have things well in hand. The only advice I can give you is keep shooting!

It appears to be a great start to me, and as Steve said, just keep shooting.

Sounds fine to me. Sure not too heavy.

Doesn’t require adding anything else. Same as above.

I will add a hearty welcome to the site and to the traditional family. It’s all about having fun. 😀

Thank you I’m loving it even though I’m getting so much slack from my old compound buddies.

I’m going to predict that before long, some of those buddies will see how much fun you’re having, and how little time you’re spending messing around with contrivances, and start to become a lot more curious about shooting trad bows.

                      Welcome. 😀

Widows are known to need a stiffer arrow then most bows, and with over 300 grains up front, the arrow sounds weak spined to me. Unless you started with a .300 spine shaft…I would be more concerned right now with finding the right spine then worrying about shaft weight. Has the shaft been paper tuned?

Out of my Widows my 56# Widows, I use a 30 1/4″ .400 spine Easton FMJ with just a 100 grain tip and the regular 16 grain insert.

I’m shooting gold tip 5575 so I’m assuming they’re 400 spine. 28.75 inches long. Have not paper tuned yet. But as I’m shooting they look as if they are flying good not sure though. Im not real sure bout all this though
