I love stump shooting. The snow is almost gone & I’m ready to go. My hunting broadheads are 175 grains (glue, inserts, weight collar, etc.) for an F.O.C. of 16.17 on my aluminium shafts. By glueing full length broadhead adaptors into my glue-on Judo Points (Zwickey), I get a 181 grain practice head – pretty close to my hunting heads. My problem is……how do I keep from leaving Judo Points in the stumps or having the insert pop out of the point on impact? What kind of glue should I be using? My ferrule cement is not holding up.

If you are using Bohning Ferrel-tite it might be a little too brittle, try using something a little more pliable. Kustom King sell a glue that Tom Parsons supplies to them, comes in stick form about 2″ diameter and about 1/12′ long. I think it is out of the plywood industry. This has more elasticity. I would also recommend that you clean the Judos and your inserts using acetone before you glue them together. Another option would be to use a two part epoxy.

I’ve found that just standard “Hot Glue” works really good in place of the Bohning ferr-l-tite. You can find it at most hardware stores, hobby shops and even Wally World. You can apply it in the same manner as you do the ferr-l-tite, just not as much heat is needed. It also makes for taking inserts out much faster for both aluminum and carbon shafts.

I’m using the hot glue on the recommendation of someone at 3Rivers a while back. It works well, but now and then you’re just gonna have a separation. I use plenty of glue and I also clean out the heads, whether judos or broadheads, with alcohol and then get them plenty hot. Now and then I’ll also reset a head after I’ve been stumping it for a few days. I’ll either just heat it up and turn it a little or apply a bit more glue.
I wear a sort of utility belt with a Buck 110 with the tip snapped off, which I know is redundant, for digging into stumps and logs to dislodge stuck points. I filed the flat tip to make it more like a chisel. I also carry a pair of pliers in a holster on that belt to get a hold of the judo for prying and wiggling the head to help save the shaft. One more thing on that belt is the sleeve of an old tee shirt for wiping the arrows. By running the belt through the sleeve it won’t fall off and get lost. -
I have tried hot melt and had simular results. Now I use 5 Minute Epoxy for everything. It is heat reversable and forms a very strong bond. Be sure to clean all surfaces inside and out with acetone prior to glueup to remove any existing lubricant or mold release and insure a good bond.

I got a hot melt glue pot 3rivers and there soft hot melt they say to use with this pot.Only had one point come off and it was a field point. I had judo points pretty deep in a few stumps.I broke a few wood shafts trying to get some out but the glue didnt fail. I carry plyers and a old knife now. good luck good shooting
