        What is the proper name of the bench/vise that hold the stave while working on it? I saw one in a magazine at one time and it looked like something I can make. It looks like you sit on a bench and using foot pressure to hold the stave you can use your draw knife.

        Where can I get plans for one?

          I believe it’s called a bowyer’s bench. We ran a how-to in the Jun/Jul 2000 issue that details how to make one. Unfortunately, that was before our “age of digital” so I don’t have a copy I can post here. You can get the print magazine in our shopping area, or maybe someone else has plan they can share with you.
