Earlier this year, maybe it was last winter, I was discussing arrows, stains, and sealers, etc. Well, my son broke or lost all but three of my arrows this summer, so I had to make a move. I ended up buying more cedars. Primarily, because I have a taper tool and it’s my understanding that I wouldn’t have been able to use it with douglas fir shafts.

I bought the Stalker Stain from Lost Nation Archery. I chose yellow. I bought Gasket Lacquer, a Big Dipper tube and the Speed Coat Dipper Cap Kit. I used a cloth to stain the arrows, two coats. The gasket lacquer, tube, and kit worked slick for sealing the arrows. I did two coats of gasket lacquer as well. I really like the results. I’ll post some pics shortly.

            Woodies rule!

Though I put a lot more gasket lacker on my arrows than you did…

I put three coats on and then wait a few hours. Then rub them real good with some fine steel wood and then coat them again. Smoother than the inner thigh of a, well never mind.

I was impressed at how well the gasket lacker held up to shooting hay bales, and dirt. Dirt will wear the finish off pretty fast, but not as fast as I thought. If the rabbits, groundhogs, and squirrels would stand still a little longer I wouldn’t have as many sorry looking arrows.

I forgot to mention that I used steel wool between each coat of stain and lacquer.

                Perty!

I stained mine canary yellow with alcohol based analin stain. Gotta wear sunglasses to look at ’em.

That’s the way I like ’em. Easier to find!

Patrick, you can use a taper tool on Douglas fir arrows, I do it all the time just take it slow and easy.
