Looks like I’m about to become a nonimmagrant alien in the U.S. My wife and I are looking at temporary jobs in the Salt Lake City area. We are both specialists in the mining industry. Of course I want to bring some of my bows with me. I’ve looked through the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives forms and can’t find anywhere identifying a bow as a firearm. Without getting tangled up in a million ATF forms, can anybody tell me if a bow is considered a firearm in the U.S.A.?

Call US Customs….they aren’t firearms here, bought over the counter with no paperwork, but I’m not sure about bringing them through customs. I betcha you could ship them ahead with no problems

Welcome! Take a look at the official Welcome to the United States — A Guide for International Visitors . You’ll see that bows and arrows are not identified as prohibited or restricted articles. You will want to pay attention to the parts regarding hunting trophies and the like if that is an issue.

Don’t worry about it, but kindly offer them the info on what they are and why you have them. And welcome to the land of the…well, if not “free,” then at least the land where you don’t have to register bows.
