By reading the threads on this site you’ll learn a lot. Also, another good place to learn, as well as be entertained is on http://www.twistedstave.com . One of the members here, Clay Hayes, has that terrific site and does some terrific videos.

That mag has been around for a long time. I was surprised to see an interview of a hunter there as it’s a far cry from hook and bullet, which of course is why David Petersen was the subject. I haven’t read the mag for some time but it always seemed to have quality content and was a place beginners could get published. Howdy across the hedge row! Dwc

Good advise here.

My biggest suggestion would be to read as much as possible, watch videos (u-tube) and shoot as much as possible.

Going to traditional 3d shoots is a great experience, way different then the compound guys. Everyone would be willing to help/mentor you. You will have a blast and make new friends.

I met 2 good friends from this site and we meet up all the time and stump, do 3d and even hunted this year together.

Welcome, Stadig. Lots of good advice so far. I’ll share that I have learned quite a bit just reading posts here.

You may want to check in with a couple of the local rod & gun clubs in your area. There may be a few trad archers there that can help you. Also look to see if there are any archery shops in your area. Folks there may be able to help connect you.

Not sure where you are located in Oregon, but there is at least one large traditional shoot. Eagle Cap Traditional Archers, “Rendezvous at the River”. Takes place June 11, 12, 13 (2016) at the LeGrande Rifle & Pistol Club, LeGrande, OR. A little further afield, there are two events in Washington by the Traditional Bowhunters of Washington.
