I have a Shakespeare, Super Neceda, marked 50# @ 28″. I actually draw 29.5″ The bow currently has a rest marked “Bear” which is an oval of leather with what appears to be toothbrush bristles sticking out of it at 90 degrees. This is glued onto the bow above the shelf. I don’t care for this rest and would like to shoot off the shelf if possible. I question whether this is possible because the shelf is completely flat unlike the arched shelf on my Bear Super Kodiak. I’d like to use a rest similar to the Bear Hair. Can this rest be used with a flat shelf? Any other suggestions for a good, traditional rest would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

You can probably just shoot of the flat shelf just fine. But if you want to get fancy, you can add a little elevation under the bear hair. A small piece of leather can be used to make a high point for the arrow to ride on. Place it over the deepest part of the grip.
Some folks do the same with the side plate. The idea being the less contact with the arrow, the less effect from hand torquing.

Someone not me came up with a better mouse trap years ago for flat shelves. Cut a plastic cotton ended cue tip into 2 pieces. put one under shelf and side plate right at pivot point. Then cover with rug rests of preferred material from otter skin to plain ole moleskin. I leave a small gap between shelf and side plate material which seems to let feather pass a little smoother. Black Widow invention I believe. Leaves only a very small precise contact points for arrow to rest on so less friction.

I used a small piece of rolled up velcro. It has some give to it which I think helps.
