Big boats and lights @ night are a great way to put a pile of fish in the boat. For me though, it doesn’t get any better than slipping along in a canoe in shallow water w/ another buddy when the sun is out. Spotting feeding and/or spawning fish that way allows you to literally “stalk” them, which is more gratifying than listening to a generator. Good luck and keep us posted. – Timothy

The canoe is a great platform for bowfishing. I have a 40″ center width Predator that is stable enough for two people to stand and shoot from. Slipping through the shallows for carp is something I look forward to each spring. That and turkeys, of course. The winters here in the high desert of Idaho are long, and right now I am dying to get out and do some shooting.
We have several lakes and reservoirs that do not produce huge trash fish. For years, many of us have simply waded along the shoreline, in the shadows of trees, and shoot carp with wooden arrows…no strings, no reels. Only lost one fish in all the years, and it was a big one.

I think yononindo has it! I want a canoe or a kayak, but right now I just use dads jon boat as a platform and it is truely perfect for bowfishing, we have like a wooden platform as the front, and I can stand up there and see for ages. If you are shooting down into the water polorized sunglasses are a must! But most people tend to either shoot at night or when they break surface. I have never hunted like that, I just look for them cruzing in the bottoms. My all time favorite way it to get up on a high bank of our local creek, and wait, there is a semi deep pool where they slide on by and let the arrows fly, if possible practice a bit, because the refraction is more than I personally expected, I knew that is was there but it took a LONG time to adjust! For me to hit fish a foot or so down and about 10 yards away I have to aim like 2 feet low:shock: but I dought that is like that for everyone??? I just think the heavy arrow mixed with the refraction is what makes me have to do that! But I left my arrows full length I might try and cut them down this summer? Best of luck and definatly check out that video!

O and yononindo, I thought that sound that occurs when you shoot from that kayak was wicked!!! Almost like a canon! And that shot at the end! Amazing!

Yonindo,
You are a true child of the tules! You’ve inspired me to try that from my kayak. Do you have a favorite way to prepare the fish you catch?
Thanks for sharing,
Duncan
