Ladies and Gentlemen,
Previously, I posted a question on a number of sites regarding what folks thought was the “Best Bang For The Buck” in a bolt action rifle. I received a broad range of opinions but in the end there was a clear consensus (Savage).
Today I ask the question: What do you believe is the Best Bang for the Buck in a recurve and/or long bow?
Thank you in advance for your participation,
Konrad -
Ha HA, Savage is definitely the best, I have killed two groundhogs at over 300 yards with my Savage mark II 22lr, so that about says it all:shock:
I just figured I would add to that, but now off to talking about what we are really here for. I love my greatree/samick deer master take down. Then next bow I will buy will probably be a samick! I like the sage. And most of their bows are under 300 bucks!!! But then again I have never really shot a custom bow, so I think that I probably dont know what I am missing, but they are probably the best bang for a buck!

p.s your kinda getting a question for a question on that other cite arent ya, lol.

Konrad — need more info. Like, what draw-weight? There are some amazing bargains in lighter-draw bows you won’t find in heavier sticks. Is this a serious question because you are shopping, or just curious what folks think? dave

I’m too old and damaged for the heavy stuff.
I would like to be able to practice daily (weather and time permitting) and yet still be able to pursue the occasional Blacktail or Whitetail should the opportunity present itself.
Maybe even take a poke at a carp.
I’m thinking 40 pounds at 28 inches (I draw 27) maximum.
I would probably enjoy 30 even better but that is too light for legal big game hunting here in Washington State.
I might even forgo the hunting part because I still have what pure traditionalists might call an “illicit” relationship with a compound bow (yes… sights, stabilizer, release and all!)
You have a point, Dave.
Perhaps a lighter draw would be a strong candidate. -
Konrad, check out the Great Northern Field Bow. http://www.gnbco.com. At $295 I don’t know of a better bang for the bucks. It’s a no-frills yet attractive deflex-reflex of ash or bamboo with osage riser and brown glass limbs. I just checked the catalog and they currently have several bows in stock from 31 to 45lbs, which is as heavy as this bow comes. I shot Field Bows at Kalamazoo a couple of years ago and was impressed all around that they could produce such a sweet bow for the price. If anyone else is making an equivalent bow for the bucks, I’d love to know about it.

And let’s not forget about USED! The free classified ads here could benefit us all with a lot more activity, coming and going.

Pat’s right…Thanks Dave!
I will check them out.
