        I have two bows I will be tuning arrows in when I get all my arrows, heads, adapters and inserts together. I’ll start with full length arrows and cut in increments if I have to for weak spine. Do you guys glue the inserts in or not, are they easy to get out if you have to trim all the arrows a few times?

        Does everyone bare shaft tune, or can you tune if you cut the arrows first and then adjust head weight etc? My draw length is 29 1/4″ so 30″ arrows would be perfect.

        Once the arrows are tuned what do you guys like for permanent glue?

        I’ll be using carbon arrows.

          Use ferr-l-tite. It’s easy to reheat and remove. I would recommend using different weight field tips to find the correct spine. Cut the arrows only after you’ve confirmed the correct spine and know what weight head you’ll be using.

                Assuming you are using parallel shafts, then I would recommend:
                1. that you glue your inserts in using an epoxy or Bohnings insert glue.
                2. Cut the shaft from the tail end to obtain correct spine. It is easy to remove and reinstall the nock.

                Doing this allows you to not risk losing your insert in the target, and gives you a better glue joint with the point insert (since you are not removing/replacing it multiple times)

                Rough up and clean the inside of the shaft before gluing. Clean the insert with IPA as well.

                Note – Carbon shaft manufacturers warn against using any type of hot glue.

                  Ferr-l-tite is fine, but do NOT directly heat the shaft.

                  Apply the heat directly to the glue when installing the insert.

                  Heat the field tip, which will transfer the heat to the insert, then the glue, in order to remove the inserts.

                  Once you’ve figured out the arrow length you’ll be using, THEN remove the inserts. Permanantly install them using JB Weld.

                    Thanks guys.

                    For my 53# bow I have a set of grizzlystiks coming, they are tapered I believe.

                    For my 40# bow I will pick out some carbons probably paralell, I like the idea of cutting the nock end.

                    Appreciate the advice, I’m looking forward to building some hunting arrows!
