If you would like a project may suggest something I saw years ago. A palmless sheep skin mitten that was worn with a fingerless woollen glove, the mittens were attached by cord in the sleeves that allowed the user to pull the mitt off and not worry about loosing it. Might even have ago myself.

I’ve never paid attention to the mass of the insulation in my mitts, but I’m a fan of the flip-top style. I’ve worn both shooting gloves & tabs under them. A quick & silent movement of a few fingers flips the lid & you’re ready to shoot. The disadvantage is that you can’t make a fist, but it’s still a lot better than a pair of gloves.
(The sheepskin idea sounds nice & toasty.)

I’ve looked to no avail for wool mittens like the ones I showed you on that other thread. I beleive they are Duxbak but Duxbak does not seem to carry them anymore. The ones like Hubertus mentioned is all I get when I search wool mittens. I think those would be good if they will resist wind chill maybe with a gore tex liner.

Edit post: Well if you can’t buy them you could make them. Found a bunch of sites dealing with hand made mittens from old thrift shop sweaters. Just wash the wool sweater to shrink it (called felting) and then cut out a pattern, sew em up and then turn right side out. Could customize with a slit for your shooting hand. Just a thought.

There is a design of mitten out there that you can flip open the finger portion and it is held back by magnets or noisy velcrow i have not seen them in leather though. It might be an option to having to take your mitten off to get at your shooting glove.

Yes it is a mitten there are two typs one with fingers and one without works pretty good but I also live and hunt in Arizona.LOL:)

Hey Chris…I might have real easy fix. Go to a army/navy surplus shop. Maybe you remeber the old army mittens, They were called “trigger-fit” mittens. They had a little fold away index finger stall to fire a weapon. These mittens are O.D. in color,with a smooth leather palm. They extend a good way up the arm too! Inside is a nice OD wool liner that can be removed as well. Hope this works, Lee
