        Where do you stump shoot?

You’re welcome to stump here but you gotta use your own arrows:lol::lol:

Do this only when well dried. Extremely slippery:wink: when wet.

Most of the stumps I shoot happen to be right next to the 3D targets I was aiming for 😳 . I usually keep to the ranges to practice, but when I get bored in the woods (about 10 minutes after I get there, thanks to the ADHD) I usually find some dead logs and send some field points their way. Funny thing is, I seem to do better shooting logs than 3D targets. I have about a 5 yard advantage on a dead log over a life-sized foam deer. Maybe it’s mental. When I shoot at a log, I just don’t care. Hit or miss, it’s just fun. On the range, I concentrate on the vitals, try to work on my form, try to get to a point that I would be able to take an animal with the least amount of suffering to said animal. Who knows. Be well.

No stumps in this photo and it was from last fall, but it’s typical Eastern PA woods. best, dwc

I stick to the target in the yard. I’ll fling a few during hunting season in the woods to stay sharp, but I’ve lost enough arrows under the duff or they go skipping off somewhere I personally don’t stump much.

I stump shoot along with target shooting on my range at home. I’ve cut about a mile’s worth of trails in the woods on my property where I’ve placed a dozen or so targets and keep some blunts with me for stumps between targets. Blunts and judos work great cause they won’t burrow under, and hide from you. Otherwise I’d have to spend everything I have on arrows.:?

Never stump shot before!:( Does it have to be a dead rotten stump (would think the arrow would be easier to pull out if it was).

                        Sinawalli,

Saying you haven’t lived would be a stretch, but it’s a great time and a great way to practice woods shots. Depending on how you want to challenge yourself, you can always find thickets and branches to shoot through to really get to know how much your arrow arcs on the way to the target. It’s great practice, but it’s mainly great fun. have fun, dwc

Good way to pick up some of what others leave behind. An ancient’s beverage container I’m sure 😀

My usual stumpin’ grounds, as far as the eye can see:

One man’s trash is another man’s targt I always say, haha.

If not for you, it WOULD definately be an ancient’s beverage container someday. T:wink:hat stuff stays around forever.

Good way to clean up after the slobs of the world!

                              Thanks for caring!

Stumping is by far my favorite way to spend time shooting. I never thought about taking pictures of my quarry though…

Maybe I’ll start! I remember this awesome 12 pt, I mean oz mountain-do can that almost got away,… but didn’t.

Pods, full of seeds, from a type of yucca called “bear grass” around here. They burst, seeds fly, cool noise, excellent stump shooting fodder. Mule deer eat them in winter also.

A field of stump shootin dreams.

How about ‘the green of spring’? Ain’t happening around here.
