Sorry to my Southern brothers I am speaking of the “Phil” type hog “aka” the Wood Chuck.
My question to everyone that has hunted them what type of tip did you use. If a blunt tip was used did it kill the ground hog or merely wound him…
If it helps I am using a 50 lb Bear Kodiak Hunter with 600 grain arrows with 260 grain tips (about 19 % FOC or so)…thanks everyone

          hi brennanherr
i use ace blunts 145 gr i have had pass throughs on most good hits. ground hog are tough animals they are pretty hard to stop in there tracks with a bow.most i have shot died before they get to there hole.most places i hunt hogs i know where there holes are at.if you know the holes then you can tell how far they are from home.i like them to be 35 to 40 yards for them to die. i have had a few that the arrow stayed in the hog and they could not get down the hole allowing a killing close shot. i shot 5 this year and cleanly miss about 10. i setup in brush about 40 to 50 yards from the holes.the last one i shot was 4 yards away. anyway have fun as always take only the shot if you can kill them bob mc

              bobmack,
thanks for the tips…it is appreciated. The last hog I killed was at 300 yards with my model 70. Not nearly as much fun as 15 yards with a bow would be…..even with a couple misses.

I agree with Mr Graf, it has been many years since I hunted Ground “hogs”, but the small game heads did not work well at all. I eventually used Bear Razorheads {my Big Game BHead at the time}, which solved the problem.

I hunt them spring through fall and I use Judo points. I have never had an issue except when I miss. The Judo points are tough, cheap and don’t get lost very easily.
