OK, maybe turkeys are not big game, but what is the best arrow setup for turkeys? Broadheads anyone?

I use the same arrow and head for turkey as I do elk, deer or what ever. Wood arrows and an Eclipse head.

I use a beeman ICS bowhunter shaft with a 3 blade thunderhead with a muzzy grasshopper behind it, looks like it will work, I dont use a blind so I havent gotten one yet!

i use same setup as i usr for deer 2blade zwickey.
shot one with the compound several years ago with 100gr thunderhead and a small game stopper behind it the arrow stopped in the feathers and fell back out when he got and flew.
i just shoot the broadhead now with nothing behind it.
              good luck

Thanks for that tip, I’ve always wondered about those small game stoppers and how well they work. May be OK for squirrels but not turkeys?

hmmm? What was your arrow set up, cause I have heard of people killing turkeys with judos? And not head shots, lung shots, of course, things work for others, and some things just plain dont work! Just wondering about the rest of your set up because like I said I havent killed anything with it yet!! I dont want to finally get a shot and not kill the bird, lol!

I haven’t made up the arrows yet, but I’ve got a half dozen 175gr Ace Super Express broadheads that are just screamin’ to be put through a turkey. If you haven’t seen these things up close, they’re a BIG two-blade. I’m going to make up a set of woodies to put them on, although I haven’t decided on colors yet. I usually do everything bright, because I love to watch them fly, but I think with turkey I’ll use some duller colors and put the flo green classic nocks on them for visibility.

I’m going to use some zwickey 2 blades that I have. Good idea to use the flo green knocks with less bright fletch.

I use pink feathers anymore-shows up good on camera-and the turkeys really didnt seem to care about that much, the were more concerned with my camera? I fixed that though, camoed it up, lol. I thought about going back to traditional barred but I think I will just stick with pink? Mabye in the spring I will posting a thread about a turkey down on video, or mabye posting one about a turkey dodging my arrow on video?? Only time will tell!!

I’ve never taken a turkey with the bow. I do have a couple of nice birds with the shotgun. Both close enough for bow kill but I was in the open so I would have got busted trying to draw. If NC had a fall season I would have more opportunities with the bow. I’ve had gobblers walk right by me while just standing beside a big oak. Fully camo’d of course. Can’t wait for April to get here so I can try it!.

I wouldn’t use a stopper for turkeys. I’ve killed a few with a 290 fps compound and did not get a pass through. They are tough and since they only weigh about 20 pounds they don’t absorb as much energy as a deer.

After the shot give em some time, don’t chase em like you do with a shotgun. If you do shoot one you have trouble finding be sure to look in any brush or cover nearby no matter how small. I found one I’d shot by seeing the tips of it’s tail feathers sticking out of a brush pile not much bigger than a five gallon bucket.

I killed my bow birds in a blind, but I had success getting drawn on birds wearing leafy wear out of the blind, I just coud’nt close the deal.

Good luck, it is quite the challenge. For me turkey time means Benelli time.

Three blade for Turks. Shoot em in the color phase x area.
