Well another season has come and gone. A few firsts this year with both Grouse and Beaver. But as with the last three years I went without a Deer. Scared the crap out of a few though .

So how did you folks do? Any exciting stories?

Got a 7 pointer and a 4 pointer. No great stories to tell though.

I did laugh out loud over your accomplishment. If I could weigh all the crap I’ve scared out of deer, I expect it would be more than all the meat I have harvested…

The best scare I gave was an eight foot miss on a yearling Whitetail Doe. Forgot to pick a spot and sent the arrow just below her. Actually tickled her belly with the fletch! She made to most goofy grunt/squeel sound and I doubt she stopped running till she reached Saskatchewan. Best part of all was that the Woodsman broadhead I was shooting was shorter than the fletch so she didn’t even get nicked!
I like to brag that any archer can kill a Deer, it takes a true marksmen to tickle one :D.

I am heading out for possibly the last day of my hunting (for deer) for the season tomorrow. I have not killed one yet with my bow this year, but the way I look at it now is I am hunting and if I don’t kill something that is fine. If I wanted to go killing, I would use a rifle. Am I right or am I right. 😉

last day for me is today. Heading out shortly for an afternoon sit. Been watching a few leave my cornfield behind the farm house , hope to see one old enough to think about shooting. Its going to be a long 9 months……

I missed a doe this season that gave me the same evil look my wife gives when I do something stupid. I get the look alot!!

Great season to date with 3 deer, all taken with classic Bear recurves. Indiana has until 1/8/11 for late archery season.

This being my first season hunting, I had no idea what to expect. I saw alot of deer, a few bucks and a lot of does. I took one shot at a doe at about twenty three yards. I hit her low in the brisket, tracked the blood for about a hundred yards and then it stopped. I never found her. I took several shots at squirrels. I came really close and scared them all. I also took a shot at a coyote this saturday. It was so close, but the lower limb of my Black Widow recurve hit my stand when I took the shot. I should of raised the seat. All in all, I had an awesome time this season. I spent a lot of quality time in God’s creation and enjoyed every minute of it. I’m still after the squirrels and I’m going to try to get the two coyotes that live in the area.

Yeah…..track soup for me. Maybe the squirrels will cooperate.

I too am a complete loser. I muffed a shot at a very large buck in early October and just couldn’t get it together the rest of the times out (no more misses, just no shots). It sure will be a sweet day when I can close the deal of my first trad buck. “Til next year!

Yah I too felt pretty low at first. But then I realised that for every miss, I had managed to get within 20 yards of some of the spookiest critters on earth. In my first couple years as an archer I didn’t even accomplish that. So once I realised that I was becoming a better hunter, I didn’t feel so bad about being an iffy archer (on big game anyhow).

It may be over but not forgotten.

For my part all my plans came to nothing, work work work.

Only consolation was we were making good money, now we got problems, wish I’d gone hunting wont get the time back.

Keep at it reading your posts is the only thing keeping me sane:wink:

I’m another that was too busy this year to put time into hitting the woods. Only trips out included taking a friend’s 12 year old out on our opening day of rifle season, and helping my sister’s boyfriend pack his bull out on Halloween. At least I got a share of the meat for the 12 hours I put in helping pack 😀 I enjoy reading everybody’s recounts of their seasons and their individual hunts, too. Keep’em coming!

Pigs are getting prevalent where I hunt so maybe I can settle for some pork. Trouble is, they be not as stupid as some people give them credit for. So far I’ve haven’t been able to show my superior intelligence. Ha, but season ain’t over for them yet!!!!!!! Neither did I get a shot at deer during bow season but I enjoyed a bunch anyway. To be out and about is all I need! All else is bonus!

The elk season in colorado was not sucesful for myself although a couple of friends at the archery range did manage to get a couple of cows. I will have to say that a lot of lessons learned from watching a herd of elk that were on private land and unable to shoot at.
