        I am returning to hunt moose in Alberta this coming Sept. I am going with an outfitter. David Bzaway’s web site is http://www.ihuntalberta.com.

        I have hunted with David 2 times previously and killed a moose the last time i went in 2007. I am going on what they call the “early rut” hunt. This is a fully guided 7 1/2 day hunt.The lodging is a tent camp, food nourishing but not fancy. Having hunted with this outfitter twice previously, I can say without hesitation that you wont find a harder working individual to put game in front of you. This hunt consists of calling , walking and some tree stand sitting. The hunt dates are 9/16 to 9/23. ( I am flying in to Edmonton on 15th and flying home on the 24th.) For a 2 on 1 situation the price is 4450.00 plus 500 for your tag.. I am looking for another traditional bow hunter to hunt with me. check out his site and if you have any interest and have more questions feel free to ask away. Dave has a couple of other parties interested but I thought i’d throw this out there since the group of bow hunters who frequent this sight are the cream of the crop.

          Sounds like a lot of fun! To make it clear to folks, (and if I am correct…) I think it needs to be pointed out that only 1 moose can be taken by the 2 hunters. So once one moose has been harvested, that’s it. Two tags go on it.

          So how are you planning to get the meat home? It’s been a couple years since I hunted in Canada, but to fly back, the meat had to go through Newark or Chicago and wait 24 hours for inspection. What a pain.

          Last time I drove back so I could get it all done at the border right away without waiting and motels… It still took 3 hours to get through the inspection.

            Sorry that’s incorrect. Each hunter has his own tag ( bull only) no cross tagging. Otherwise the hunt would be a lot cheaper. ( and not nearly as much fun)

            I will fly the meat home as I did last time. I did not have any inspection as it flew as extra baggage. Expensive yes but worth every penny! in 2007 it cost me around 400.00 at the airport when i showed up with 5 coolers. i am sure it is more now as is everything else.

              I’m glad to hear you had no trouble getting the meat back. They must have slacked up the inspection requirements. I drove my moose across the border in 2007 and had some grief. But it was not nearly the trouble I had from a caribou in 2002. That one had to sit on the floor of a warehouse for 24 hours. Something about mad cow disease and hoof and mouth disease…

              I am glad to hear you don’t have to put two tags on a moose. Moose is the best. You won’t have trouble eating through 5 coolers of it.
