Well , this last weekend I got to go hunting with a guy who knows his stuff. We set up our blinds fri night. Mine was a camo netting thing and limbs. I was really excited. In the morn. we went to our blinds, cool & rainey morning. I sat there about 2 hrs. no movement, quiet. after 2 hrs couldnt take it anymore. So I tried to stalk with the wind in my favor. stalked a cow LOL .
I dont know how you guys sit still for so long. After the first hr. I was wanting to be bowfishing ,, or walking thru the woods with my 22. Looking for a rabbit , or squirrel.
So , I guess I will leave the deer hunting to you folks who are mre patient than me.
Im ADD, that doesnt help. I got to keep moving. The fellow I hunted with ,, told me I was too “restless” for this sport.
But it was a neat experience & I learned something about myself. I have much respect for you who are patient deer hunters.

          Steve,
Don’t give up because you think you need to spend more time at it. While pulling an all day hunt can sometimes be productive, I have taken many deer with only 2-3 hours or less spent in my stand. And some were taken only minutes after getting into my stand. Having been tied to a job all my life, hunting time was often after work catching the last 2-3 hour of daylight which can be the most productive time of day to see deer. So don’t give up, just work within your own comfort zone, identify a good area and try hitting it at “prime time” as I call it. Another approach in the morning is not going out early like everyone else. Try hunting from 9-12 and you might be surprised. Other hunters leaving for lunch will often stir the deer up in their movements.

Steve J- I confess I have the same problem though I don’t have ADD- acouple hours sitting, hopefully a warm sun then the eyelids droop-perhaps a little nap is indicated! Maybe that’s why it’s strongly recommended to harness up in a tree stand so you don’t wake up with the jolting, startle reflex as your body hits the ground!
So spot and stalk- David Peterson& G. Fred Asbell have excellent articles and books on the technique. Slow and slower- Get the best binocs you can afford, pan the area, search thoroughly thru any gaps and holes, always aware of the wind. Perchance you’ll spot that little tail movement- then the fun begins! But at least you’re involved and won’t get bored-whether you get a deer or not- well that’s why it’s called HUNTING not GETTING! Duncan has good advice too.
            Luck-Bert
