I was in the basement working(leisurely)on my next set of woodies and I got to wondering if anyone else tried getting two cuts out of a full length feather. I took a 5″ traditional cut and a 4″ parabolic cut out of most of them. Getting the 5″ first and then trying for a 4″,if there was enough quill left. I managed to get around two dozen 4″ when I got done with the 3 dozen full length feathers. This gives me some 4″ to repair or replace feathers on my four fletched arrows.:? Wayne
When I first started chopping feathers 30+ yrs. ago it was rare that you couldn’t get two 5″ cuts from one full length. Now I shoot for one 5″ and one 4″ or two 4″. It’s not uncommon to only get one cut these days. Leftovers are good for flu flu’s.
Never thought about using the leftovers for flu flu’s,Ralph! Thanks for the tip! I gave some of lo’s to my grand daughter who wanted some of the good ones……oh,no no no,little one! Poppy’s got to put those on his woodies! Wayne
