This morning I took out my Northern Mist Reverse Handle Whisper Longbow. It has a cocbolo handle and the limbs are all bamboo. I have nicknamed her “Blondie” for years. She has been my “go to” hunting bow ever since I got her. I have other Northern Mist bows, a Howard Hill, Martin, Bear and Pearson bows most of which I shoot for equal periods of time during the “off season”. But I read Fred Asbell’s article a couple of years back and agree, whatever you do, stay with it from 60 days before hunting season and stay with it through the season – keeps variability and unfamiliarity out of the equation during the moment of truth. What amazed me was… I picked up “Blondie” this morning and it was like putting on a favorite glove and the sensation of an old familiar friend. Blondie and I have lots of memories already. God willing more to come.

Good Hunting Everyone! Have a Safe & Successful Season! Success being those measures you carry most close to your heart!).

I know the feeling, even though all my recurves are set up exactly the same so I shoot them all equally well, I have my go to bow. Its my awesome Deer Master take down, I love that thing, intermitently I will shoot a different one at some bunnys or something but if things get serious you will see me with one bow in my hand. Cant wait just over a month till bowseason!!!!

Ah, the joys of anticipation — almost like being a teen preparing for a date, but without all the fears and frustrations. I just have to be real careful I don’t blow out my right shoulder from practicing too much. BB

Two weeks from this coming Saturday is our opening day of archery season for deer and elk. Black bear, moose, sheep and goat open the 15th of September, as does our backcountry (wilderness) rifle season. Upland bird opens on the 1st of September. Not sure when archery only for antelope opens, but it’s coming up soon. Really gittin down to crunch time to get things straightened out.
