I have a quite a few bows about 7 ea, recurves and the same in longbows. Ive had soem of them over 20 years. Im in need of some new strings I ordered two ea for several of the bows i shoot the most on ebay and the serviing started unraveling almost immediatly on some of them. does anyone have a vendor they recomend who makes flemish strings that will hold up.
I really dont shoot any one bow enough to eat up a string so fast. some of my bows were only on their second string after all these years. I do keep them well waxed and the bows are never exposed to direct sun except while being shot.
my local shop wants more to reserve strings than I paid for them whit shipping online. maybe thats the answer. I dont mind paying more for high quality. -
Hi Codger, I started making my own strings after some encouragement from the folks here and once you get the technique it’s just a matter of practice and very satisfying.
Serving is a good place to start and should cost you no more than the string, that will last many years. I now tie my knocks with constrictor knots so that’s another thing I’ll never need to carry.
TJ’s book The Traditional Bowhunters Handbook, has a whole chapter that is easy to follow and there are many Youtube vids worth watching before taking the plunge.
Anyhow starting to ramble now, have a go and good luck, Mark.
PS I think it was Homer that put up some helpful info.

Codger…are you left handed? It makes a difference in how the serving is put on. Larry Fischer covered this in a Tip of the Week called Coming Unraveled. T.J.’s book also gives instructions on serving strings after you build them. It’s a great book, but I’m kinda partial to the guy. 😆
Hope this helps.

i ripped out my right arm and the recoil dislocartes my arm so i leraned to shoot right handed. Thanks for all the input. -
