Anybody else having issues getting on this site for the class? Just wanted to see if it’s just me?
-
I don’t have time right now to thoroughly explore it, but I used the “first time” link as instructed, signed in successfully, then wound up at a page that said it was not currently available. If this is similar to your problem, I’d say it’s on their end. I’ll look into it more later today … have to walk the dying dog first.

Thanks David. Took me about a half a dozen tries but I got it working. Good luck with the pooch!

On the announcment page they said they were having site wide trouble. Dwc

I also had difficulty today. From the note I saw about a site power outage, I would guess it is somehow part of the current East Coast winter storm. There are still links that take me to a “404 error” page.
Anyone else taking the Aldo Leopold course that started today?

OK this is what we found–first time page gives you the error message. Ignore it look to the left side of page and click the second option– course guide/syllabus. And your in.
Mike–well I should say Linda she figured it out just before I hurled this thing into the blizzard outside.:D

Mike,
We all know that violence and technology don’t mix. Most of us know that from experience!
I had a problem at the start, but have been able to opening the reading material and watch a couple of short videos.
Bugs. Good stuff so far, as expected. best, dwc

I’m with the Grumpster on this. I “got in” but didn’t get nowhere fast. It’s an unnecessarily complex site. Namely, they ask you to pin yourself on a map, but that link goes nowhere, and etc. I just want to click “go to class” and start reading the lessons. People who live and work with complex confuser stuff just don’t have a clue how to communicate with the rest of us Neanderthals. I’ll try again, as I’m really interested in what these academics have to say … but there’s a limit to patience, as I have a very busy life these days. 🙄

I’m not exactly a techy or techie or however you spell it, but try hitting this link. It might ask you to sign in, but it goes right to the tutorials. I bet you got this far, but give it a shot. So far everything seems to open up now. dwc

As of right now I have no problem getting in. However you when log into coursera’s website it keeps saying start in x hours so I click on go to class and then click on week 1 to get started. If anybody has issues give me a pm and will help as much as possible since I have taken a few classes on coursera before.

End of week two and I’m finishing tonight. Hailing from PA, as I do, I am sure taking notice to how PA is used as an example of how things have gone wrong.
For those not taking the course, here’s a link to one very good read. Gary Alt was very well known in the Pocono region as he conducted a lot of his bear studies here before he was handed the deer program. It’s amazing how a scientist can be treated. He was truly right about a lot of things, but damn right about the first thing he said when they gave him the program.

Well said–makes you wonder if we will ever learn anything.
Here in W. MD we just finished the great coyote shoot off pictures in the paper and all. In our county the saying goes “if you ain’t hit a deer–you will”–the car repair garages don’t mind the business–good for the economy.
Finish week 2 tonight–good course.
