That’s quite the shiner! I guess old faithful must have let him down. From the angle of the shot, it appears he was about to arrow a goose. Did it fall on him? Do tell in more detail.

That’s a beauty. Glad it wasn’t worse. A couple of school mates were shooting one of the guys bows when we were kids. The target kept falling down, so, yep, they took turns sitting behind the target to hold it up. One guys leaned around the target to announce that he wasn’t ready yet and got smacked just on the outside of the eye socket. The arrow deflected outward and he was alright. Just a “dummy” for life. Scary stuff. I’m glad you son was no worse for the wear. best, dwc

Could be the bow broke…or that prior shot of looking to shoot straight up…? Nah…Dad wouldn’t have allowed that but kids can be QUICK!

Funnitest part (if there is one) is seeing kids in shorts and no shirt this time of year…oh, yeah, you’re upside down in seasons, huh? 🙂

He probably thought living upside down as you are down there, it’ j ust hit North America or Europe or something… Never the rain spout…

When growing up, we all had stick bows…all there was… and guys would get better ones as they got older and shoot them up to see them disappear and then come down and we’d scatter under the trees!

Then it hit the paper…some kid elsewhere did that, and it stuck (field point) into his head…his dad cut it off, wrapped it and let it stay in his head while rushed to hospital. Brain surgeon reported in the article had he pulled it out, the kid would have died quickly. As it was…kid had a bald spot for a while…but he recovered…

Guess who never shot an arrow up in the air again? Yup!:shock:

That is a pretty scary story… but thankfully, it came out alright and I bet your boy learned a very valuable lesson as well!

Steve – I made a nice PVC bow for one of my great nephews and it started a chain reaction in which their folks have called to put in birthday requests for bows. Now all the kids have bows – actually I may have one more to go.

Jim – so glad it was just a shiner! Your son looks like a tough little guy and a happy guy!

Not a bow but I launched gumball sized steel ball straight up in the air from my wrist rocket and that %$#@*& thing left a hell of a knot on my noggin.

Good one, Jim! Too bad more people don’t realize that point early on…we might have less single parent families!

Now that the back story is known, this is one for the tally books and some good humor amidst the initial dread…

With those rubber tips on there, I was trying to figure out how he got hurt… but now that it all worked out and is known, it is a great story for years to come…
