I just purchased bowhning fletch tape, I wiped my shafts with alcohol before I fletched and tried not to let it contact anything but my shaft and quill but it just isn’t sticking like I have seen others stick. I can puch on them and they slide. I am using rw feathers beman bowhunter shafts and a bitz jig. I also burn my feathers, is the heat breaking down the adhesive?

Hey knot.. never used the tape but similar problems w/ bare shafts . Ifound that after using the alcohol a wipe w/ a damp, not wet rag, solved the problem. Turns out that water is a bonding aid for “super type” glues. You didn’t mention what glue you used but maybe this will help.

I’ve been using the tape from the start. I’m sure with the glue I’d be making a mess. I use a piece of one of those green pot scrubbers with alcohol on it and give the section of the shaft a mild scrubbing to slightly break the finish. I wipe off any residue once it’s dry with a clean cotton cloth and I’m good to go. I use a drop of Beyond Bond fore and aft on the feather. I only ever had one arrow that the feather didn’t stick to. I ended up using extra glue to hold the feather. After a while I just took the feathers off and started over. Whatever the problem was, it got wiped away. Good luck, dwcphoto

well I’m pretty sure I got a bad batch so I’m going back to glue.

If you got a bad batch, send it back. Whoever you bought it from will probably stand by it to keep you as a customer. dwcphoto

Never had a problem with tape. Give the shaft a light sanding with extra fine, wipe it down with denatured alcohol, fletch it, and then put a dab of glue (I use Gold Tip arrow glue) at either end of the feather.

Maybe you got a bad batch, but I would send it back and give it a second try. It’s so much easier and quicker than glue, imo.

I’ve never used tape. But I have had arrows made for me that were taped. They lasted just fine.

I would switch to tape, except I use a jojan fletcher and there would be no point to it – tape really shines when using a single arrow fletcher.

Seems like tape is more expensive than glue though. And I can use my glue for stuff besides arrows…

If I had it to do over again, I might start out using tape.

I found through trial and error and others advice that a single fletcher with a strong magnet works best with the tape. The only problem I’ve had with the tape is getting the forward part of the fetching to stay tight after a few misses in the grass then shooting through one of my StuffIt targets will pull the fetching loose up front.

Like mentioned in a previous post, I began gluing the fore and aft of the fetching and that has helped greatly.

As for the tape sliding around after cleaning with alcohol, it must dry at least 20 – 30 minutes with alcohol before fetching it the problem persists send it back and ask for a replacement roll. Whoever you bought it from should replace or refund it with no problem.

                      Good luck

I have used super glue gel for a while and “I” made a mess every arrow. I got some BEARPAW fletch tape and it is very nice. Sticks really good. I think it would stick snot to a jellyfish. When it touches, it is there. Love it and will never go back to “my” messes. <del
